The official Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) for Jefferson County have been updated effective February 5, 2014. The City’s official floodplain map has been updated with the new information.
The new map incorporated updated and more detailed hydrology studies and any formal map revisions that have been filed with FEMA since the last effective maps were published in June 2003. Approximately 420 parcels were removed from the 100-year floodplain and approximately 180 parcels are now included in the 100-year floodplain that were not in the previous maps.
This update of the FIRMs is separate from the Garrison Street bridge and Ralston Creek channel improvements that were recently completed. The process to change the floodplain limits as a result of that project is underway but still under review. Once that process is complete, additional properties impacted by the Ralston Creek floodplain in between Garrison Street and Carr Street will be removed from the 100-year floodplain. The process is estimated to be complete by June 2014, but is dependent on the number of comments received on the re-submittal and the time needed to complete the revisions.
