Park Renovation Updates

The City of Arvada checks parks and playgrounds across the City for accessibility, maintenance and safety issues as part of the City’s “Taking Lasting Care” (TLC) Program that began in 2012 under direction from City Council. This program is funded through the City's Capitol Improvement Plan, which is reviewed and approved by City Council each year.

Ideally, one or more parks are prioritized based on age or wear for improvements depending on the budget, scope and staff capacity. Some improvements may be prioritized ahead of other parks in order to achieve these City goals.

The preliminary themes and final designs are often chosen by the community through public engagement events that are tailored to the local and/or larger community.

Renovations In Progress

Alice Sweet Thomas Park Court Renovation

The tennis courts, practice court and basketball court are currently under construction and not open to the public. All courts are being resurfaced and are projected to be completed at the end of September.  Project timeline subject to change.

Lakecrest Park Playground Renovation

Playground currently under construction and not open to the public. Safety is the City's #1 priority. For your safety, please do not access the playground until the construction fencing is removed.

An unforeseen challenge has delayed the construction of the Lakecrest playground and we are unable to open it until steps have been taken to ensure the safety and structural stability of the play equipment. The first step to ensure safety and stability is soil testing, which was completed on 8/29. The findings from the soil test will be used in a structural review of the footings to determine if the current footings are acceptable or need to be replaced.

Other steps in the timeline to open the playground include:

  • Safety audit and code compliance check
  • Contractor punch list completion
  • Acceptance of contractor work by the City
  • Open the playground

We look forward to being able to share this new playground with the community and appreciate your patience as we work through these critical steps to ensure the safety of all playground users. We will keep you informed as we progress through this work.
