Parks and Open Space
The City of Arvada manages a 3,400 acre system of parks and open space. The parks system includes 90+ neighborhood parks, one within a ten-minute walk of every residence in our community--a goal that was presented in Arvada's first Comprehensive Plan in 1964 and has been repeated in the Comprehensive Plan and various updates to the Parks Master Plan ever since. In 1974, Arvada voters approved a tax increase to support that goal allowing for the continued development of this robust parks and open space system.
Arvada offers nearly 150 miles of trails with both paved and soft surfaces for non-motorized recreational enjoyment as well as commuting. Primary trails in the City of Arvada generally follow creek or canal corridors and span longer distances. Many primary trails are also regional in nature, linking to other cities and counties outside Arvada's boundaries.
For decades, Arvada has earned the distinction of being named Tree City USA by the National Arbor Foundation. Trees are a major part of the City’s infrastructure, providing both beauty and supporting vital ecosystems.
