Olde Town Utility Box Art Call for Entry

The City of Arvada’s Arts & Culture Commission (AACC) and the Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District (BID) are requesting proposals in an open competition for artists to create artwork on utility boxes throughout Olde Town Arvada. This will be the first phase of the Arvada Box Art Project.  The boxes are excellent canvases—often in highly-visible areas—to showcase the historic, cultural, social, and creative values of Arvada.

Scope of Work and Budget

The AACC and BID seek designs to be painted on-site. Artists selected for utility box painting will be compensated in the amount of $1000 plus an additional stipend to cover the cost of materials, depending on the size and detail of work proposed and the square footage of the box.

Timeline

Deadline for applications is December 1, 2019. Artists will be notified by March 1, 2020. Box painting is tentatively scheduled for June 2020.

For more information, read the full Call for Entry.

Box Art Project Overview

The Arvada Arts & Culture Commission will be requesting proposals for artists to create artwork on utility boxes throughout the city in several phases.  The Arvada Box Art project aims to enhance visual aesthetics in the city and to increase civic pride. The primary goal is to bring art to unexpected places where it can add joy to people’s lives.  This project seeks original designs by local artists to be painted on-site, as well as designs for vinyl wrap.

Sign up for the Artist Directory Form to be notified when applications for artists open for future phases.

This project is a partnership between the Arvada Arts and Culture Commission, Arvada Parks Advisory Committee, and Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District (BID)
