Ralston Road Bond Project: Phase Two Progress with Traffic Switch to the North

The City of Arvada and Hamon Infrastructure move traffic to the north, newly paved side of the Ralston Road Bond Project

During the week of September 19, the City of Arvada and Hamon Infrastructure construction crews achieved an important milestone on Ralston Road by shifting traffic to the north, newly paved side of the corridor. The traffic shift allows crews to begin work on the south side of the road.

Since the project began in 2021, construction crews have updated and moved underground utilities such as water and storm sewer lines, upgraded traffic signals, and replaced stretches of sidewalks, curbs and gutters with wider ADA compliant facilities. Private utilities companies have worked to underground power lines and move cable facilities throughout the corridor. Crews experienced unexpected utility challenges during this phase and have worked diligently to keep the project moving forward.

Project Background and Description

The reconstruction of Ralston Road is an ambitious two-phase project to widen this important corridor, better support multi-modal transportation and provide sustainable infrastructure for the area. Phase One of the project addressed roadway, accessibility, pavement conditions, and aesthetic upgrades from Upham to Yukon Streets. Phase One was completed in Spring of 2021.

Phase Two, which is funded through a voter approved bond measure, encompasses pavement reconstruction from Yukon to Garrison streets as well as widening, adding safety and drainage improvements, bringing existing curb ramps and sidewalks into ADA compliance, replacing aging traffic signals, and incorporating landscaping to create a vibrant urban streetscape.
Phase Two of the Ralston Road project is anticipated to be completed in late 2023. Please visit the Ralston Road project website for more information and updates about the project.
