Curb, Gutter, and Sidewalk Maintenance

The City's ordinance municode Sec. 94-68 places responsibility for curb, gutter and sidewalk maintenance on the property owner. Concrete must be repaired or replaced in accordance with the City's ordinance.

50/50 Program

The City of Arvada has made the decision to pause the program indefinitely while we undertake a review of our approach to concrete replacement.

In 2021, the City of Arvada completed an ADA Transition Plan. Part of the work on the transition plan was a detailed assessment of City facilities such as buildings. parks and public right of way. Currently, most sidewalks in the city do not meet accessibility standards established in the Americans with Disabilities Act. The City is committed to determining how to correct this.

The challenge of widening our sidewalks to meet accessibility standards is complicated. If we continue to replace “like for like,” the deficiency is not corrected. Widening a sidewalk requires either acquiring right of way from the street or from a property owner such as their front yard and purchasing right of way is an additional cost. Widening sidewalks one property at a time creates new hazards and does not meaningfully improve accessibility.

The City team is working to determine a path forward to address the ADA Transition Plan in a strategic and sustainable manner. For these reasons, we are unable to accommodate the 50/50 Concrete Replacement Program at this time.

When a new policy is created, we will share that information with the community. If you previously requested to participate in the 50/50 Program, your request for participation and inspection results will be retained.
