The Colorado sex offender registry includes only those persons who have been required by law to register and who are in compliance with the sex offender registration laws. Persons should not rely solely on the sex offender registry as a safeguard against perpetrators of sexual assault in their communities. The crime for which a person is convicted may not accurately reflect the level of risk. Some adults, including those convicted of only one misdemeanor offense, are omitted from the web site in accordance with state law. Juvenile offenders and one-time misdemeanor offenders are available at the police department. Offenders who have failed to register are not listed; please visit the Colorado Bureau of Investigations web site for a list of "failed-to-register" persons.
Sexual crime can be a severely traumatizing event, leading to life-altering consequences for the victim. Colorado Law (Article 16, Title 22 CRS) requires persons convicted of certain sex crimes to register with the law enforcement agency having jurisdiction where they reside.
