Socks for the Homeless
Did you know that socks are the number one clothing need for the homeless population? Socks wear out quickly and are often overlooked as donation items.
The City of Arvada is supporting the 2015/2016 “Sock It To Em” Sock Campaign by serving as a donation site at Arvada City Hall, 8101 Ralston Road, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., through December 31.
Mayors across the region are uniting to support this cause in two ways: one, urging people to donate socks; and two, encouraging people to forgo socks on December 9 as a show of solidarity and support. Arvada Mayor Marc Williams stated, “I am happy to assist in any way I can to educate people about the needs of our homeless population. I encourage everyone in our community to support the Sock It To Em Sock Campaign by donating socks and going 'sockless' on December 9 in respect of this need!"
Those who participate in the Sock It To Em Sock Campaign are encouraged to post pictures of themselves on the campaign’s Facebook page sporting bare feet and ankles to help raise awareness of the cause and help encourage others to donate warm comfort to those in need.
Founded by Susan Elizabeth Lee in 2011, the campaign strives to raise awareness for the homeless throughout the winter months and to gather donations of new and gently used socks to warm the feet of those without shelter.
