Public Comment Meeting Being Held as Part of Arvada Police Department Accreditation Process

The Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) will be in Arvada from December 8 to 11, 2013, as part of the Arvada Police Department’s ninth accreditation application.

During the on-site visit, CALEA assessors will host a public comment session where citizens can share their thoughts, stories and concerns about the Arvada Police Department. This public comment session will take place on Monday, December 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Anne Campbell room at City Hall(8101 Ralston Rd).

“CALEA offers 481 standards for law enforcement agencies.  The board of commissioners is constantly reviewing standards to ensure best management practices for law enforcement agencies,” said Commander Ed Brady of the Arvada Police Department. “CALEA certification is a national certification which demonstrates to our citizens, city manager’s office and City Council that we are a professional organization that lives up to the highest standards.

“This assessment every three years holds our feet to the fire by showing that we deliver our mission of dedication, respect and responsibility everyday. It also points out areas where we can do better and ensures our long-term health as a law enforcement agency.”

Residents who are unable to attend the public meeting can still weigh in with CALEA. There will be a phone line available, 720-898-6694, on Monday, December 9 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to speak with a CALEA representative. Residents may also write the assessors at:
