The City of Arvada’s approach to delivering superior services to enhance the lives of everyone in the community has received national recognition. The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) recently recognized the City for its commitment to results-driven government management and reporting with a Certificate of Excellence in Performance Management, the highest distinction offered by ICMA.
Arvada is one of just 25 jurisdictions nationally to receive the Certificate of Excellence, which is awarded to local governments that collect and verify performance data, train staff in performance measurement, report data to the public, report key outcomes, survey residents and employees, incorporate data into performance dashboards, and foster the development of a performance culture throughout their organizations.
“While we are pleased to have our progress recognized by ICMA, we also know that our journey to excellence is ongoing,” said City Manager Mark Deven. “We continually find opportunities to improve our performance and service to the community, and we’re just getting started.”
At the center of the City’s approach to performance management is its integrated performance management system, called FOCUS, which aligns performance-based budgeting, strategic planning, strategic results, priorities, milestones, performance measures, and individual workforce goals to clearly define what the City needs to accomplish as outlined by the City Council Strategic Plan.
Arvada and other award recipients will be officially recognized at the ICMA digital event, UNITE, Sept. 23-26.
