Overnight Accident in Arvada Kills One

(Arvada February 15, 2016) – The Arvada and Westminster Police responded to an overnight car accident  at 80th Avenue and Sheridan Blvd. that killed a 40-year-old mother.


Arvada officers were dispatched at approximately 10:05 p.m. to the scene, where a Chevy Malibu traveling westbound on 80th avenue entered the intersection on a green light and was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling southbound.


The driver of the Chevy Malibu, a 40-year-old woman, was transported to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Her 15-year-old daughter was hospitalized from her injuries.


The two occupants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, including Jose Sandoval Cruz (DOB 1-9-92), fled the accident scene. They were apprehended by Westminster Police at Highway 36 and Pecos Avenue. Interviews and evidence at the scene indicate that Sandoval Cruz was the driver.


The identity of the victim is not being released pending family notification.


Alcohol is believed to be involved.
