Denver Man Crashes into Two Cars, Flees, Wadsworth Blvd Closed Five Hours (03-27-09)

A 20-year old Denver man was arrested for his alleged role in crashing into multiple cars and attempting to flee police on foot near Wadsworth Blvd. and Interstate 70 just after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009.

An officer identified the suspect in a suspicious vehicle near 58th and Wadsworth Blvd.  The vehicle was later determined to have been stolen out of Lakewood two weeks earlier.

Joshua Bowers apparently blacked out the lights of the stolen Subaru Legacy and drove southbound on Wadsworth Blvd. to avoid being contacted by police. The officer was out of his patrol car on foot when he attempted to contact the suspect.

There was never a police pursuit initiated during the course of this incident.

Bowers apparently hit one car as he traveled southbound on Wadsworth Blvd.  The female driver of the other vehicle was not injured.  He then crashed into a Ford Mustang being driven by 55-year-old Arvada man at Interstate 70/Wadsworth Blvd. The victim in the crash was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Bowers fled the area on foot. After an extensive search by Arvada and Wheat Ridge officers, including an Arvada K-9, the suspect was later located in Wheat Ridge a few blocks southeast of Interstate 70 and Wadsworth Blvd.

Bowers faces multiple charges including Auto Theft, Vehicular Assault and Felony Hit and Run.

The accidents and subsequent investigation shut down Wadsworth Blvd. for five hours.
