Body Found in Arvada Identified as Missing Arvada Girl

The body discovered at a construction site near 58th Avenue and Oak Street in Arvada is that of the missing Arvada girl, Kristina Vlassenko (Vlah-sen-coe).

A construction worker at the site discovered the body just after 7 a.m. on Tuesday May 31, 2011. While it is early on in the investigation, Arvada Police do not believe foul play was involved.

The 10-year-old girl was discovered in an excavated area that will serve as the foundation for a new recreation structure.  According to a construction company at the site, it appears ground water may have seeped into the foundation.

Vlassenko was reported missing on Monday, May 30th by her family. She disappeared from the area of 58th and Miller Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. Police were alerted just before 4:30 p.m. and began an immediate search of the area.

Several members of the volunteer Arvada Search Team were activated to look for Vlassenko in conjunction with the search efforts of Arvada Police patrol officers and investigators.

Vlassenko was also equipped with a Life Trak system; however, the low frequency radio signal device did not yield results as to her whereabouts. Police speculate they did not receive a signal from the Life Trak device because it was under water.

Police investigators are working to create a timeline of Vlassneko’s path from the time she left the area of 58th and Miller until she was located.

They are asking anyone who may have seen the little girl to report that information to the Arvada Police Department at 720-898-6900.
