Arvada Police are investigating an overnight incident where a tow truck driver was struck by a car and killed near the intersection of 58th and Wadsworth Blvd., just after 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 31.

Police were already at that location on a traffic accident call when the driver of a Nissan Rogue, traveling northbound on Wadsworth Blvd., allegedly struck a Connolly’s Tow Truck driver. The Connolly’s driver had been working with emergency services personnel outside of a vehicle to be towed.

The suspect vehicle continued to head northbound on Wadsworth Blvd. and was stopped minutes later in the area of 64th and Wadsworth Blvd. A 28-year-old Lakewood man was taken into custody and will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld pending family notification.

Police are investigating if the suspect was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

It’s expected both the north and southbound lanes of Wadsworth Blvd. near 58th Avenue will be shut down until at least 7:00 a.m. on July 31 while members of the Arvada Police Department’s Critical Accident Response Team investigates the scene.
