(Arvada, CO) – The Arvada Police will again offer residents and businesses a fireworks complaint line in anticipation of the Independence Day holiday. The number, 720.898.6919, will be in service and monitored regularly throughout the day from Thursday, June 29 through Thursday, July 6.
“It is illegal to possess fireworks in the City of Arvada,” said Commander Portia Hensley. “To ensure public safety and enjoyment of the holiday for everyone, the Arvada Police Department will have zero tolerance for fireworks. Violators will be ticketed.”
Officers will take appropriate enforcement action for violations of both Arvada City Code (Use or possession of Fireworks and Criminal Mischief less than $1000) and/or the Colorado Revised Statutes (Arson, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Mischief Greater than $1000 and Intentionally Setting Wildfire).
The fireworks hotline has been used the last several years in an effort to keep 9-1-1 from being inundated with fireworks complaints and not allowing for other emergency calls. While 9-1-1 is still appropriate for emergency calls related to fireworks such as a fire or injuries, routine complaints will be transferred to the hotline.
“We encourage people to come to the 4th of July celebration at the Stenger Complex in Arvada to enjoy professional fireworks,” said Hensley. “For more information on the celebration, visit http://arvada.org/explore/arts-and-culture/fourth-of-july.”
