Arvada Police Investigate Accident at Gas Station

A 53-year-old Parker man was taken to the hospital for treatment after being trapped under an SUV at the gas station of an Arvada King Soopers located at 64th and Sheridan Blvd., just before 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011.

Police believe the man was working to remove an access cover just a few feet in front of the bumper of a Ford Expedition when the driver of the vehicle pulled forward and struck the victim, pinning him until emergency personnel from the South West Adams County Fire Department could free him.

The man was rushed to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood in critical condition.

Members of the Arvada Police Department's Critical Accident Response Team responded to the scene and are investigating the accident.

Police believe the victim, a contractor working on a project at the gas station, was in the process of removing a 12-inch in diameter access cover near the gas pump at the time of the accident. He was never underground (or attempting to move underground) at any point leading up to the accident.

It does not appear alcohol was a contributing factor in this accident. The driver of the SUV was released pending the outcome of the investigation.
