Arvada, CO . . . City Manager Mark Deven announced that he has appointed Lorie Gillis as Deputy City Manager. Gillis, currently the Chief Financial Officer for Jeffco Public Schools, will begin her new role on October 13.
“We had a large pool of extremely qualified candidates from across the country, but Lorie absolutely rose to the top,” Deven stated. “Her experience and skill set will be a great complement to our existing team, and I am thrilled that she has accepted this position.”
Gillis has served as the Chief Financial Officer for Jeffco Public Schools since 2002. As a member of the District's leadership team, she has been responsible for managing district financial, human resource and information technology needs. She has played key leadership roles in budget development, human capital management, capital financing, community engagement, technology improvement, and other large scale initiatives.
“I have loved every minute of my time at Jeffco Public Schools,” Gillis said, “but as a resident of Arvada I am excited to have the opportunity to join the City organization. In particular, I look forward to playing a key role as Arvada fully implements performance-based budgeting.”
Of Gillis’ departure from Jeffco Schools, Superintendent Dan McMinimee stated, “Lorie is the consummate professional who has given her time, expertise and talent to Jeffco for more than a decade. She has ensured that the district was financially sound and transparent, always keeping what is best for students at the forefront. While I’m saddened by her departure from Jeffco, I know this is a great opportunity for Lorie to contribute her skills to the City of Arvada and I wish her the very best as she begins a new chapter in her professional life.”
Prior to joining the District, Gillis served as Finance Director for the City of Golden for seven years and ten years as the Director of Budget and Finance for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder. She has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Colorado State University, and earned her Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership, Applied Business Management, from Colorado State University Global Campus.
The City of Arvada has two Deputy City Managers.Gillis will fill the position vacated by Michele Hovet, who resigned in April. Bill Ray has served as Deputy City Manager since 2005.
