Arrests Made in Smashed Mail Box Cases

Three Arvada teens were arrested for their alleged role in smashing mailboxes throughout the city since October.

Arvada police officers were sent to the area of 65th and Welch Ct. on a call of criminal mischief of a mailbox just after 10:30 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010.

The reporting party provided detailed information to police about the suspect's vehicle. Officers spotted that vehicle in the area of 86th Parkway and Alkire Street and contacted the driver and passengers in the car.

Further investigation linked the trio in the car to dozens of mailbox destruction incidents in Arvada. The investigation continues to determine if others may have been involved in these incidents and if they are related to mailbox smashing cases in neighboring jurisdictions.

The teens - all Arvada residents - ages 15 and 16, face criminal mischief charges.

Police estimate the mailbox destruction damage at approximately $3,000.
