8,400 Cans of Dog Food Donated to Table Mountain Animal Center, Other Shelters

Dogs in shelters throughout the Denver metro area will have a little extra wag in their tails thanks to the efforts of City of Arvada employees.

Mary Williams, a member of the Arvada Police Department, learned a semi truck involved in an accident was loaded with thousands of cans of usable dog food. The semi was being stored at Connolly's Towing in Arvada.

Rather than seeing the food be thrown away, Williams, along with Animal Management Officer Jan Reynolds, worked with the rig’s owner at Knight Trucking and their insurance agency to reclaim the cans of Purina Dog Food.

With the help of Terry Losasso from the Arvada Street Department and two crew members and Reynolds, they were able to transport 350 cases (8,400 cans) to the Table Mountain Animal Center where they will be put to good use and shared among other metro area animal shelters.

“I am extremely excited the food inside the semi will feed so many dogs,” said Mary Williams with the Arvada Police Department. “We all worked very hard to ensure the food would go to dogs in need right here in our community.”
