Traffic Safety

With so many people in vehicles, on bicycles, and on foot, traffic safety of all citizens is a primary concern of the Arvada Police Department.  The Motorcycle Enforcement Unit has the responsibility of ensuring traffic safety on the streets of Arvada.

The Motorcycle Enforcement Unit is comprised of eight officers.  The efforts of the team focus on addressing traffic-related problems throughout the city.  Education and voluntary compliance of traffic laws is the unit's primary focus.

One of the ways the Motorcycle Enforcement Unit obtains information about problem areas is from concerned citizens in the community.

If you have information about an ongoing traffic problem in your neighborhood, please contact the Communications Center at 720-898-6900.   You can request that a sector car respond to your location to take your complaint.

The Motorcycle Enforcement Unit addresses traffic related problems using a variety of tools:

  • Consulting with Traffic Engineering to address signage, street striping problems and conduct speed studies.
  • Using Neighborhood Traffic Watch.  When neighbors witness a traffic violation, they can contact the Communication Center and request a sector car respond to their location to take a complaint.
  • Loaning radar guns to residents who can use them to gauge speed on their block.
  • Employing Arvada Police Volunteers to assist with traffic-related problems.
  • Utilizing speed trailers to encourage voluntary compliance of speed limits.
  • Deploying the Motorcycle Enforcement Unit to conduct selective enforcement in problematic areas.

Sergeant Mark Nazaryk oversees the Motorcycle Enforcement Unit. He is usually available 6 am-4 pm, Monday through Friday.  To reach Sgt. Nazaryk by phone, please call 720-898-6820.
