How to Adopt a Pet

The staff and volunteers at Table Mountain Animal Center (TMAC) work diligently to place our adoptable animals in loving, permanent homes.

In 2003, TMAC cared for 11,470 animals, and are proud to report they have an overall 87% success rate of adoptions (of animals eligible for adoption) and return-to-owner placements.

How to Adopt from TMAC

TMAC has a variety of pets available for adoption. To adopt:

  • Come visit TMAC or one of our alternative adoption locations to find a pet
  • Once you’ve decided on an animal, you should check with TMAC staff to see when that animal is available for adoption and how many people, if any, have already applied to adopt the animal.
  • At this time you can fill out an adoption application.
  • Once your application is accepted, you can pay the adoption fees and take your new pet home
  • NOTE: Your animal may need to be spayed or neutered at a local vet before going home with you.

What to Expect:

Adopting an animal is a big responsibility and a life-changing decision. It’s a difficult task to find a suitable match between a potential adopter and the right pet. Are you ready to adopt?

Below are some things you will be asked and may want to consider before adopting:

  • Dogs and cats often live longer than 15 years; are you ready to take on this responsibility?
  • Are you familiar with animal control regulations in your area?
  • Do you or does anyone in your family have allergies?
  • Do you plan to place personal identification on your new pet?
  • Are you familiar with the inoculations and veterinary care your new pet will require?
  • Are you planning to move in the near future?
  • Which member of your household will be primarily responsible for feeding your new pet?
  • How many hours per day will your new pet be left alone?

It may take you and your new pet some time to adjust. If you have questions or concerns after adopting, please contact us at 303-278-7575.
