Animals

It is the policy of the Arvada Police Department to respond to animal-related complaints received by the department and to promote responsible pet ownership through enforcement, mediation, and education.

A formula, developed by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) along with statistics compiled from the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association 2003-2004 National Pet Owners Survey, estimates that

  • 39% of U.S. households on average own 1.6 dogs and
  • 34% of U.S. households on average own 2.2 cats.

The City of Arvada has 41,428 households as reported by the 2004 Arvada Economic Profile. This would indicate Arvada’s estimated pet population is 25,851 dogs and 30,989 cats.
