Arvada Police Department prides itself on the professionalism of its police officers. All Arvada police officers are required to possess a four-year degree from an accredited university prior to being hired by the Department.
After being hired, the majority of police officers begin their career in the Patrol Bureau.
Members of the Patrol Bureau are full-service police officers. This means that they respond to calls for service, initiate their own calls for service during patrol shifts, conduct traffic enforcement, file hundreds of cases with the district attorney's office each year, regularly engage in community policing efforts, and other myriad of duties and responsibilities.
Eight teams, comprised of between five to nine officers patrol the streets of Arvada on a variety of shifts, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.
In addition to the patrol teams, there are several other specialized functions within the Patrol Bureau.
- Community Resource Officers work closely with homeowners associations and apartment communities to reduce crime and the fear of crime in these areas
- Business Resource Officer coordinates with business owners throughout the city to provide specialized police service targeting crimes such as fraud and forgery, as well as offering crime prevention information
- School Resource Officers are in the city's four middle schools and four high schools throughout the year, performing patrol duties within the entire school community.
The Arvada Police Department's Traffic Unit is proactive in conducting traffic enforcement in the city. The team targets areas where high numbers of accidents have occurred to increase traffic safety, as well as other officer-initiated enforcement.
