Parks Update, October 2017

Stenger Sports Complex Playground Renovation Now Open 

On June 19, 2017, City Council approved a resolution to proceed with renovation of the playground at Stenger Sports Complex. The all-new playground incorporates physical, sensory, and inclusive play activities promoting movement, social interaction and FUN! The project is made possible by Arvada Parks' Taking Lasting Care Capital Maintenance Program. The playground is now open!

(2017) Van Bibber Creek Trail: Trailside Activity Area Now Open 

What's new along Van Bibber Creek Trail, west of the new Kipling Underpass? An activity station and rest stop just opened along one of Arvada's premiere Regional Trails, the Van Bibber Creek Trail. Funded in part with a Jefferson County Open Space grant, a shaded picnic area and series of fitness equipment offers amazing views of Harold D Lutz Baseball Fields as well as foothill and mountain vistas as you exercise or relax. Ride your bike or take a walk to explore Arvada's newest recreational destination.

 

(2017) Parks Generated by Residential Development

Residential development in Arvada is required to help offset the recreational demands generated by new residents and contribute toward Arvada's Park System.  An updated list of new parks generated by residential development and their completion status is below:

Olde Town Area:

  • Stocke-Walter Park complete (6889 W 56th - adjoining Grandview at Reed St, south of the Rail lines)

Leyden Rock Development: 

  • Lookout Park complete (17630 W 84th Pl)
  • Daybreak Park complete (16684 W 86th Ave)
  • West Ridge Park in construction; anticipated completion late 2017 (W 85th  & Culebra St.)

Whisper Creek Development: 

  • Whisper Creek Park 95% complete (13952 W 89th Pl)
  • Panorama Park Phase 1 complete; Phase 2 not yet scheduled (9032 Gladiola St)

Candelas Development: 

  • Church's Crossing Park complete (19871 W 94th Ave)
  • Cimarron Park complete (15801 W 93rd Pl)
  • Maverick Mesa Park complete (16960 W 94th Ave)
  • Sarah George Park complete (16136 W 94th Dr)
  • Haystack Plateau Park in construction; anticipated completion late 2017 (18114 W 93rd Dr)

(2016) Lake Arbor, Tennyson Knolls, and Westree Parks 

On June 20, 2016, City Council approved a resolution to proceed with renovation of older playgrounds at Lake Arbor Park  and Westree Park, and partial renovation of equipment not included in a prior renovation at Tennyson Knolls Park playground. All three parks are complete and have been re-opened!

(2015) Meadowlake Park, Oak Park and Jack B. Tomlinson Park

On June 15, 2015, City Council approved a resolution to proceed with renovation of older playgrounds at Meadowlake Park, Oak Park and Jack B. Tomlinson Park.  The renovations at all three parks were completed in October 2015 and are open to the public.

(2015) Griffith and Britton Parks

Griffith Station Park: Griffith Station Park is a 3.5 acre site at 52nd and Carr Street near the old trolley car route which is the now the location of the inter urban trail. The Griffith Station project design follows the historic rail theme. The park contains shelters, a large themed playground, trails, a multi-purpose court, seating areas, site furniture, pedestrian lighting, irrigation system, walkways, horseshoe pits and landscaping. The project included utility and drainage improvements including new curb and gutter along Carr Street with attached walkway connecting the new park to the Inter Urban Trail which provides additional access to the park from surrounding neighborhoods. The Park opened in October 2015.

Britton Park Profile: Britton Park is a 6.9 acre site at 69th and Eaton. The park project contains shelters, two new playgrounds and seating areas taking advantage of the beautiful views, a large multi-purpose court, walkways featuring a large trail loop around the park, horseshoe pits, new site furniture, a large native grass/wildlife area, sod, pedestrian lighting, irrigation system and landscaping. The project includes utility and drainage improvements including new curb and gutter and attached sidewalks on 69th and Eaton streets. The Park opened in October 2015.

 

(2015) New Parks Generated by Residential Development

 

Leyden Rock Development: Lookout Park (nearing completion), Daybreak Park (design completed no schedule for construction yet) and West Ridge Park (design nearly completed no schedule for construction yet).

Whisper Creek Development: Whisper Creek Park (60% completed, completion in 2015) and Panorama Park (100 percent of first phase of construction done. No schedule yet on the second phase).

Candelas Development: Sarah George Park (construction completed), Cimarron Park (construction complete), Maverick Mesa Park (construction completed), Haystack Plateau Park (100% of the design completed), Church's Crossing Park (construction completed).
