Sales Tax

Welcome to the City of Arvada Sales Tax and Audit Division.  Our main purpose is to collect and account for sales and use tax, enforce the regulations contained in Chapter 98 of the City Code, and to answer inquiries regarding the city sales and use tax regulations.

Key initiatives supported: 

  • Collection of sales/use tax - provide returns to businesses.
  • Licensing new businesses - send out and process licenses for businesses that have nexus within the City of Arvada.
  • Conduct audits - the division has an active audit program with three full time field auditors.
  • Provide information - answers questions from taxpayers via mail, phone or in person. Provide information and brochures for the sales and use tax portion of the City of Arvada municipal code (see Arvada City Code under related links).
  • Collect delinquent taxes - contacting delinquent accounts and working with them to bring the accounts into compliance.

Resident Rent Rebate for 2008 Begins May 1 for Qualifying Citizens

The City of Arvada is offering a tax and rent rebate for qualifying Arvada citizens beginning May 1.  Each year, from May through October, the City of Arvada offers qualifying residents a rebate for a portion of their property tax or rent paid in the prior year.  There are four categories that are eligible, as well as specific income limitations: 

  1. Senior Citizen:  Age 65 by December 31, 2008;
  2. Single Person:  Between the age of 55 and 65 by December 31, 2008;
  3. Disabled Person;
  4. Head of Household.

The income limits are set yearly by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the metro Denver area.  For 2008, the income limitations are $25,150 for single applicants and $28,700 for married or co-applicants.  The limitation is for ALL household income from ALL sources, including Social Security payments. 

Documentation MUST be provided each year to confirm income sources AND rent or property tax payment receipts.

The property tax rebate is the portion of your 2008 property taxes designated for the City of Arvada, up to a maximum of $60.  The rent rebate covers two percent of rent paid.  There is also an additional food tax credit of $25 per person.

The refund program for 2008 will be in effect from May 1, 2009 until October 30, 2009.  Prior applicants, from the last two years, will automatically have applications mailed to their homes.  Additional information and rebate requests can be requested by calling the Resident Rebate hotline at 720-898-7114.
