Arvada Housing Needs Assessment May 2004
The City of Arvada has completed and printed an exhaustive assessment of housing needs for the community.
The purpose of the assessment was to provide the City with baseline information that would be useful in evaluating and targeting affordable housing efforts. The study also provided key information for the preparation of the City's new five year Consolidated Strategy and Plan Submission for Housing and Community Development Programs for 2005-2009. That Strategy is a necessary component required by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development in order to obtain vital federal assistance such as the Community Development Block Grant.
The 116 page study was prepared under contract with McCormick and Associates, Inc. under the guidance of the Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Division of the City Community Development Department. The study was also completed in close cooperation with the Jefferson County Housing Authority and the Jefferson Count Community Development/Criminal Justice Planning Division which allowed for shared cost savings and a consistent approach to examining housing conditions in both the City and the County.
The study provided a detailed examination regarding Special Needs Housing for Seniors, the Disabled, and for Homeless populations. The study also broke the City down into four primary quadrants to examine differences and similarities between those quadrants. Relying on extensive US Census data; a community wide survey; and realtor, employer, and developer interviews; the study will provide important data and information to the current work underway to update the City Comprehensive Plan.
Copies of the City of Arvada Housing Needs Assessment May 2004 are available through the Community Development Department at a cost of $15.00.
