Passport Processing Time

Processing time for new and renewal applications varies depending on the nation-wide volume of applications at any given time. At this time, routine applications are being processed within four to six weeks from the time of application. Requests for expedited service are taking three weeks. Customers are advised to check the U.S. Department of State Travel Information link provided under Passport Resources for the most up to date processing times as passport demand is seasonal in nature with peak periods falling between January and July. We recommend applying outside these times whenever possible.

Expedited service – by paying an additional $60 per application you can expedite the processing of your application to three weeks. You may also wish to pay for overnight mail service to send your application and have it returned to you, based on your particular time frame.

If you are traveling or need your passport in order to get a visa within the next 2 weeks, please call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778 to schedule an appointment to apply in person at a Passport Agency. Here in Colorado we have the Colorado Passport Agency located at 3151 S. Vaughn Way, Suite 600 in Aurora. (View on Google Maps) It is required that you call the above phone number to make an appointment. There is no charge for an appointment at the passport agency. Customers should not pay anyone or any business making such a charge. The passport agency is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (excluding Federal holidays).
