Dozens of people have called the Arvada Police Department about strange e-mails from Africa. This situation is one best ignored. There are numerous groups throughout Africa sending e-mails asking Americans to assist them in freeing funds that have been seized by their government, which are then to be used for a number of reasons. This is nothing more than a sophisticated scam. We suggest deleting the e-mail and not responding.
By even answering the e-mail you are notifying the sender that they have connected with a real address. We have spoken with numerous law enforcement officials, including federal agencies, about this scam and have been told that there is no way to investigate the scam as we in US Law Enforcement have no way to track the suspects overseas and prosecute even if we could locate them.
