The Arvada Parks Department generates a considerable amount of wood mulch each year from tree maintenance operations and the Christmas Tree Recycling Program. The mulch is stockpiled at the park maintenance facility, located at 7800 West 62nd Avenue and is free to the public. Hours are from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Residents picking up mulch are responsible for loading their own vehicles. Mulch provides a number of positive things for our urban landscapes: It reduces water loss due to evaporation, it helps to control weeds, it moderates soil temperatures, allowing shrub and tree roots to continue to grow as the soil cools down, and it reduces water run off. Mulch placed around trees helps to keep lawn mowers from knicking the trees trunk.
