Wood Stove Regulations

A permit is required for the installation of wood stoves. The fee varies depending on the cost of the installation.  A new wood stove must be listed and approved by a nationally recognized testing agency.  Emissions must comply with the State of Colorado and the Environmental Protection Agency. Approved units are of types Phase II by EPA requirements and Phase III by the State of Colorado requirements.

A used wood stove cannot be reinstalled unless it satisfies all code requirements.  Literature concerning the manufacturer's installation instructions must be submitted to the plans reviewer prior to the issuance of a building permit for the new wood stove.  All wood stoves must be inspected prior to use.  For further information, call the residential plans reviewer in the Building Inspection Division at 720-898-7620, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
