Festival of Scarecrows - Saturday, October 10, 2009
It’s Scarecrow Time Again!
Come join the free family festivities at the 13th Annual Festival of Scarecrows, Saturday, October 10th from 10 AM -2 PM at the Olde Town Square (W. 57th Ave. & Olde Wadsworth). Enjoy scarecrows of all sizes, shapes, stuffing and costumes; pumpkins galore; hayrides around Olde Town; community booths, and lots of little costumed ghosts and goblins parading around Olde Town.
Enter your own special scarecrow in the Scarecrow Contest as an individual, business or organization or vote on your favorite creations from the whimsical to the spooky displayed all over Olde Town. Prizes will be awarded in several categories.
Buy your favorite pumpkins from the Pumpkin Patch. Paint your purchase with your favorite spooky or jolly face at the pumpkin painting booth. Proceeds from the pumpkin sales will be donated to the Arvada Community Food Bank.
Everyone can enjoy a ride around Olde Town on the horse-drawn hay wagon and the smallest celebrants can explore the Cornstalk Maze. Admission to the Maze is canned goods for the Arvada Food Bank.
Kids, put on your finest Halloween costume and march around Town Square in the costume parade led by Bruster, the Giant Green Dragon. Every parade entrant receives a bag of goodies! Stop by and say “Hi” to Trevor, the 1947 bright yellow and green restored John Deere tractor.
Lots of community booths including food, “spook-tacular” face painting, animal balloon tying, fun and games. The Arvada Fire Protection District will be on hand with a shiny fire truck; kids can ask real firemen about their work.
Celebrate the autumn harvest with a “Boo” Fest for all! This festival is co-produced by the Festivals Commission and Historic Olde Town Arvada. To enter a scarecrow in the contest or get more information, call Historic Olde Town Arvada at 303-420-6100 or go to www.arvadafestivals.com.
