Celebrate Your Nineties

"You make us feel so special."  Guest at the 2009 Annual High Tea for Seniors

The Fifth Annual High Tea for Seniors for Arvada residents who have reached the age of 90 and beyond is scheduled Saturday, March 13th at the Egg Shell Restaurant located on 58th & Olde Wadsworth in Olde Town Arvada.   The Arvada Festivals Commission hosts this event for qualified seniors and their guests.  The first cups of tea will be served at 4 PM with a program to follow.

Guests this year will learn the difference between dabbers and blowers as they reminisce about a time when every woman carried a “hankie.”  Katie Dix, an active member of the Colorado Historical Society and a self-proclaimed Vintage Hanky Raconteur, will lead guests down memory lane as they remember when “clean” handkerchiefs could be found in grandmother’s apron pocket and in mama’s Sunday purse. Gentlemen will also recall the message sent by a dropped handkerchief.

Dix’s love of the hanky grew when she lived in northern England.  Her vintage collection of ‘hankies” tell the story of women over the last several centuries.  Learn to appreciate why handkerchiefs are collectibles and have a value.  Bring one of your own vintage handkerchiefs.

Guests will learn to appreciate why handkerchiefs are collectibles and have a value and are encouraged to bring one of their own vintage handkerchiefs.

Event co-chair Lynne Heinekamp, explains, "The High Tea has become an event eagerly anticipated by guests from previous years." Co-chair Mary VanDoozer says, "Each year, over 60 celebrants and their guests eat, drink and are quite merry at this celebration of among people who have lived long, interesting lives."

Guests, who can recall life memories from the early twentieth century, find reminiscing and sharing their stories very satisfying.  An abundant array of tea sandwiches, fruit and scrumptious desserts accompany the teas.  Live musical entertainment and gifts for each guest add fun.
