What celebration takes over 2,500 hours, four organizations and six months to plan and produce; attracts over 30,000 enthusiastic people; and lights up the night sky with blasts of brilliant fireworks? It’s Arvada’s annual spectacular 4th of July celebration of the Spirit of America on Friday, July 4th at the Lutz/Stenger Complex, W. 58th Avenue just west of Kipling.
The star of the show, Arvada’s spectacular fireworks display, is one of the best (and safest) fireworks programs in the metro area. At about 9:00 PM, the colorful blasts will dance to the simulcast collection of great oldies and patriotic music from KOOL105. The fireworks show, by Stonebrakers Fireworks, lasts about 25 minutes, and is pre-programmed to the music and timed to be set off by computers.
Arvada’s fireworks show is over thirty years old and this year’s spectacular is a joint production by the Arvada Festivals Commission, KOOL 105 Radio, and Apex Park and Recreation District (formerly North Jeffco). The day of free family fun offers live music all afternoon, kid’s fun activities, games, food concessions, display booths, a car show and a military display.
Get ready to party with some great bands, provided by KOOL105 Radio, starting at 3:00 PM and meet some of your favorite DJs at the KOOL105 booth. Rock to hits from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s.
Event coordinator Nancy Bentzen says most of the thousands of hours devoted to planning and producing the event comes from the staffs and volunteers of two City departments, the Apex District, the Arvada Fire District and Kool 105. At the celebration, about 200 workers, including paid staff and volunteers, give up their holiday to spend over 1,300 person hours creating fun for guests.
Free family-friendly events throughout the afternoon and evening include:
- Kids’ Park featuring an obstacle course, bungee run, big slide, face tattoos and more fun activities.
- Classic Car Show by Kool 105.
- The Arvada Police Department’s “safety bug” Jessica on display.
- Child DNA kits offered by Arvada Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni.
- Fire trucks and emergency vehicles on display from the Arvada Fire Protection District and Pridemark.
- A military display.
- A midway with community booths and patriotic items for sale.
- Food and drinks concession stands and carts.
Bring your family and friends to celebrate a safe and fun Independence Day in Arvada!
