Vandals have targeted mailboxes in Arvada and Jefferson County in recent weeks as more than 40 of the letter holders have been damaged or destroyed since October 1.
The crimes are occurring just south of 88th Avenue between Simms Street and Wadsworth Boulevard.
While there are no suspects identified in the incidents, police believe these late night vandalism crimes may be connected to juveniles.
"We traditionally see teens committing these types of crimes, but until the suspects are located we cannot be certain," said Commander Aaron Jacks of the Arvada Police Department. "While it may seem like an insignificant crime, the time a homeowner spends in making the repairs and paying for a new mailbox quickly adds up and impacts the community as a whole."
Police estimate the damage at $3,000.
In reviewing the reports related to these incidents, most have occurred in the late evening and overnight hours between Thursdays and Sundays.
