Teen Dies Following Accident in Arvada

A teenage boy riding his skateboard was injured in an accident and died after being taken to a local hospital. 

On Sunday, October 5, 2008 around 12:30 pm, 17-year-old Austin Ayers was believed to be riding his long skateboard in the southbound bike lane in the 6500 block of Oak Street.  At some point, he held onto the passenger-side front door or window of a Jeep Wrangler being driven by a 34-year-old man.  When Ayers let go of the jeep, he was struck by the vehicle, and then hit the pavement.

The teenager was taken to Saint Anthony's Hospital Center where he lated died from his injuries.

Arvada police are continuing to investigate.

The name of the driver of the jeep is being withheld until the completion of the investigation.
