Some things simply go together: Peanut butter and jelly or even Sundays and football. Another perfect pair is Freedom Harley Davidson of Lakewood and the Arvada Police Department.
For nearly eight years, the friendly folks at Freedom Harley (8020 W. Colfax Avenue) have been providing specially equipped Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles for members of the Arvada Police Department's Traffic Unit.
"It's a win-win situation for both the Arvada Police Department and the community," said Sgt. Mark Nazaryk who oversees the Motorcycle Unit. "Not only are the bikes leased for a minimal fee, our officers are also equipped with machines of exceptional quality and have access to an outstanding service department at Freedom Harley."
The Road King motorcycles are returned to Freedom Harley at the end of the year and are later sold to citizens (sans the emergency lights!).
According to Freedom Harley, there is usually a waiting list for these sharp-looking, low mileage bikes.
Dave Hare, general manager for Freedom Harley says that this Lakewood business, in operation for more than 20 years, is a strong supporter of law enforcement.
Not only have they worked with police departments across the Front Range, they also sponsor events such as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. This annual motorcycle ride raises money for a fund in honor of Det. Donnie Young, a Denver Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
"We at Freedom Harley Davidson pride ourselves on supporting law enforcement," said Hare.
