The Colorado Springs Police Department has received information from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) tracing the origins of the guns in the possession of Matthew Murray at the time of the shooting at New Life Church on Sunday, December 9th, 2007. Matthew Murray had three weapons on his person when he entered the church and a fourth weapon was located in his vehicle.
All of the weapons were purchased by Matthew Murray.
Bushmaster XM15 Assault Rifle, Purchased on January 9, 2007 at the Sportsman’s Warehouse at 14140 E. Ellsworth, Aurora, Co.
#2. AK-47 Assault Rifle, purchased November 17, 2006 at Robert’s Firearms at 18498 E. Colfax, Aurora, Co.
#3. Beretta .40 cal. Semi-automatic handgun purchased on January 4, 2007, at Sportsman’s Warehouse at 555 N. Chelton Rd, Colorado Springs, CO.
#4. Springfield Armory 9mm semi-automatic handgun purchased on September 11, 2007 at Dave’s Guns at 1842 S. Parker Rd. Denver, Co.
The AK-47 was the weapon found in the vehicle. The investigation has confirmed 26 rounds fired from the Bushmaster Assault Rifle and one round from the Springfield 9mm.
A 5th gun was recovered from Matthew Murray’s home during the search of the residence. That gun was also purchased by Murray and is a Beretta .22cal. handgun purchased on June 2, 2007 at the Sportsman’s Warehouse at 14140 E. Ellsworth Ave. in Aurora, Co. This gun is now located at the Arvada Police Department.
The security volunteer from New Life Church, Jeanne Assam, had a Beretta 9mm semi-automatic handgun and she fired a total of 10 rounds while engaged in the shooting with the suspect.
