Don Wick, a 27-year veteran of the Arvada Police Department, became Chief on July 7, 2007. Chief Wick started his career with Arvada in 1985 after serving four years as a police officer in Laramie, Wyoming. He holds a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State College, a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Colorado at Denver, Graduate School of Public Affairs, and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Denver. Additional training in policing includes attending the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University; the Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University; and, Senior Executives in State and Local Government and the National Preparedness Leadership Institute at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Chief Wick is active in the Arvada-Jefferson Kiwanis club and volunteers his time for several nonprofit organizations in the Arvada/Jefferson County area.
In his spare time, Chief Wick builds furniture, acoustic and electric guitars, and enjoys reading world literature. Chief Wick is an avid road and mountain cyclist, enjoys distance running, and loves the great outdoors and all that Colorado has to offer. Chief Wick has been married for 26 years and has two adult daughters.
