Arvada House Fire Leaves Man Dead, Woman Injured (04-22-09)

Arvada firefighters were called to a fire in the 14300 block of West 70th Drive in Arvada, near Indiana Street about midnight on April 22, 2009.  When they arrived, flames were coming from the second floor of the home.

A woman had climbed out of a second-story window and was hanging from a gutter.  She dropped to the ground and was taken to St. Anthony's Central Hospital with injuries.

Firefighters discovered the body of a man in the house a few hours later.

Cause of the fire is unknown at this time and investigation is continuing.

UPDATE

The man killed in the fire has been identified as Dennis Mantas, age 68. 

Mr. Mantas was a pharmacist and owner of the Wheat Ridge Pharmacy since 1975.  He has been an instrumental business the Wheat Ridge community and received awards for his public service.

He left his wife, Maria, and three grown children to mourn his death.
