Arvada Police Capture Subway Bandit

Arvada Police acted on information developed through an ongoing investigation about the Subway bandit that led to an arrest when a suspect was detained as he was opening the door to commit a 13th robbery.

The suspect, dubbed the Subway Bandit, robbed 12 fast food establishments, primarily Subway Restaurants, in the metro area including Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Lakewood, Broomfield, Thornton and Adams County since November 2013. Officers with the Arvada Community Response Impact Team (CRIT) were working Wednesday night conducting surveillance at a Subway located at 64th & McIntyre.

Within minutes of parking in the lot several yards from the store front, a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the previous robberies parked two stalls over from the Arvada officer.

At approximately 9:40 p.m., the suspect drove to a parking spot almost directly in front of the subway, backed in and left his vehicle running, then started to enter the restaurant.

Members of the CRIT team apprehended the suspect as he was entering the restaurant.Emery Andrew Lewis (DOB 3/20/83) was apprehended wearing the hat and other garments seen in previous surveillance video, and had a BB gun that resembled a 9mm pistol (same as was used in previous robberies) as well as a robbery note.

Lewis was arrested, taken to Arvada headquarters and interviewed by detectives. He was then transported to Jefferson County Jail.
