Arvada Police Arrest Two in Hit and Run

Two people are in custody following an early morning incident involving shots fired, a stolen vehicle and a hit and run accident in Arvada, just after 8:30 a.m., on Tuesday, June 27, 2006.

Preliminary information indicates two vehicles were traveling southbound on Lamar St. and then onto westbound 58th Avenue around 8:30 a.m. Witness accounts indicate that shots were fired at that point in time; however, it’s under investigation as to which vehicle (one, or both) fired the shots.

The two vehicles involved in the incident included a gray Ford pick-up truck (steal out of Denver) and a light-colored or white car (unknown make/model).

As the vehicles traveled through the intersection of 58th and Wadsworth Blvd, the driver of the stolen truck crashed into another car already in the intersection. Meanwhile, the light-colored car had already passed through the intersection without hitting another vehicle.

The female driver of the car struck by the stolen Ford pick-up truck was not injured as a result of the crash.

Two men inside the truck ran from the scene on foot, heading southbound from the crash.

Witnesses in the area alerted police that the suspects had run into a grove of trees just south of Grandview Avenue.

A perimeter was set by Arvada police officers, and with the help of a K-9 from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, two suspects were taken into custody shortly thereafter.

A handgun was found in the area where the suspects were arrested.

The two male adult suspects were taken into custody. Their names are not available at this time.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident and hasn’t been contacted by police should call the Arvada Police Department at 720-898-6700.
