The Garrison Street Center, which includes an indoor turf arena and other recreational programming, will be demolished later this year as part of the Garrison Street Bridge project.  In the meantime, construction of the new indoor turf arena—the Apex Field House—will begin shortly at the Harold D. Lutz Sports Complex.  The Apex Field House will provide a year-round facility for indoor soccer, lacrosse and flag football programs, classes, drop-in activities, and leagues, and will be operated by the Apex Park and Recreation District.

The Garrison Street bridge project will meet the City’s requirement to address problems associated with the 100-year flood plain, removing from flood plain designation 70 homes and adjacent commercial properties (primarily the Arvada Square shopping center).  The project will also include routing the Ralston Creek Trail under Garrison Street, creating a safer and more user-friendly trail, and launch a completely revitalized park along Ralston Creek between Garrison and Carr Street.  For more information about the project, click here.

The Apex Park and Recreation District intends to recycle as many materials as possible from the old center in building the Apex Field House, while at the same time offering better quality and efficiency.  For example, the existing artificial turf at the Garrison Street Center will be reused, but the new Field House will feature improved lighting and energy efficiency.

Construction on the Apex Field House will necessitate the closing of BMX bicycle tracks at the Lutz Sports Complex.  A new BMX track will be created for 2012.  Users of the track who are interested in providing input on new design ideas are encouraged to call the City of Arvada Parks Department at 720-898-7400.
