ARVADA, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities presents a special engagement: the acclaimed Off-Broadway musical comedy Altar Boyz, running April 22 – June 1 in the Main Stage Theater.
Winner of the coveted Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, Altar Boyz is the longest running new musical comedy to open in New York in years! The upbeat and uplifting smash hit tells the holy inspiring story of five small-town boys from Ohio—Matthew, Mark, Luke, Juan and Abraham—trying to save the world one screaming fan at a time. This heavenly boy band is a pop sensation with a mix of extraordinary music, amazing choreography and lighthearted fun—a pure delight that’s suitable for all ages. Hailed as “a true original” by Broadway.com and “a high-spirited journey to epiphany” by the Chicago Sun-Times, Altar Boyz is going to alter your mind!
Altar Boyz is directed by Stephen Bourneuf, who makes his directorial debut at the Center. As a performer, Stephen has been see in eight Broadway shows, including A Chorus Line, Dreamgirls and Hello, Dolly!, as well as a dozen national tours. Directorial credits include Guys and Dolls, West Side Story with American Idol’s Diana DeGarmo, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas and Stages St. Louis’ High School Musical. Choreography credits include Grease, The Full Monty and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Preston Ellis makes his Arvada Center debut Matthew, The Leader. New York credits include Maccabeat, 365 Plays/365 Days and Hootin’ and Hollerin’. Regional credits include The Full Monty, Annie Get Your Gun and West Side Story.
Mauricio Perez also makes his Arvada Center debut, playing Juan, The Latin Lover. Mauricio previously played the role of Juan at St. Louis’s Repertory Theatre and Cincinnati Playhouse. Favorite regional credits include tick, tick…BOOM!, Footloose and Assassins.
David Perlman stars as Abraham, The Gefilte Fish Out of Water. Favorite credits include Hair, Little Shop of Horrors, Forever Plaid and Godspell. David has also appeared on Law & Order.
John Pinto Jr. plays Mark, The Sensitive One. John most recently appeared on tour with Theatreworks/USA, playing Henry in Henry and Mudge. Favorite roles include Brighton Beach Memories, Grease, Bye Bye Birdie and Cat in the Hat in Seussical.
Timothy Wilson debuts at the Center as Luke, The Badboy. After just coming off a four-month run of High School Musical in Seattle, Timothy has also been seen in Urinetown, Marisol, Into the Woods and as Charlie Brown in You’re a Good Man…
