Teen Court Volunteer Job Descriptions
Juror-- As a Juror, you are expected to listen carefully to the testimony and other evidence of each case. You will need to work with the other youth jurors to render a fair and constructive sentence. You must be at least 14 years old.
Bailiff-- As a Bailiff, you announce the Judge, call the jury, swear in the witnesses, escort the jury to deliberate and assist the Coordinator with any other necessary duties. You must be at least 14 years old.
Defense Attorney-- As a Defense Attorney, you are responsible for developing a defense with your client, an opening statement, a line of questioning, and a closing argument, including recommendations for sentencing. You must be at least 14 years old.
Prosecuting Attorney-- As a Prosecuting Attorney, you are responsible for developing a case against the defendant, an opening statement, a line of questioning, and a closing argument, including recommendations for sentencing. You must be at least 14 years old.
Advisory Board Member-- As a member of the Youth Advisory Board, you are expected to attend monthly meetings, provide suggestions for changes to the program, develop new training strategies, and assist in planning the annual retreat. The Advisory Board is open to any volunteer with Teen Court.
Adult Judge— As an honorary judge, you are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the hearing and assisting youth in an educational manner, to understand legal procedure.
Magistrate - A member of a peer panel that questions the respondent and their parent(s), considers evidence presented about respondents awareness of harm caused and community development in disposition, and decides disposition.
Case Presenter - presents the case report and the impact of the respondents behavior on the community
