Snow and Ice Control Services
The City of Arvada's Snow and Ice control policy is to plow and sand arterial and collector streets on a priority basis. Priority 1 streets are arterial streets, essential streets for emergency vehicle response, streets that provide connectivity with plowed streets in adjoining jurisdictions and school zone streets. Priority 2 streets are major and minor collector streets which provide access from Priority 1 streets to residential streets. The Priority 1 and 2 streets are shown on the city snow plowing route map. See related links.
Residential streets are not routinely plowed and sanded unless they have steep hills with chronic icing problems. However, they will be plowed and sanded if the City Manager declares a snow emergency or on a request basis after the Priority 1 and Priority 2 streets have been cleared. Plowing and sanding are not routinely done on residential streets because the work is not cost effective for most storms. Typically, warmer weather follows a storm and melting naturally occurs.
Requests for Street Plowing and Sanding
To request plowing and sanding service, please call the Public Works Snow Removal line at 720-898-7725 or provide a service request using the City's Ask Arvada system, see related links.
Please leave a brief message stating your request and the location - by address or reference to cross streets. Your request will be logged into our work order system. If you requested plowing or sanding on a residential street, a truck will be sent to your location to plow or sand as soon as possible after the storm ends and the priority snow plow routes are cleared. We do not remove packed snow and ice from residential streets that are passable by passenger cars.
Requests for Gutter Ice Removal
If you have a severe ice build-up problem in the street gutter due to melting snow and ice, you may request ice removal by calling the Street Maintenance Division at 720-898-7720 or by providing a service request using the City's Ask Arvada system, see related links.
Please leave a brief message stating your request and the location - by address or reference to cross streets. Your request for ice removal will be logged into our work order system. We will inspect the location and, depending on the severity of the problem, respond accordingly. Please note that ice build-up at intersections is our first priority when melting and freezing problems on the streets are occurring. The Street Division will respond as soon as possible but ice build-up occurs throughout the city at the same time and ice removal, even with heavy equipment, is not a speedy operation.
