Lightscapes - Works by Collin Parson
DENVER, CO – The Pirate: Contemporary Art
and Mr. Collin Parson collaborate for the first time to present LightScapes, a light
and space exhibition. A total-immersion experience, this exhibition features a
dazzling display of dynamic light sources, geometric spaces, custom built light
receptors and unique control lighting effects and treatments. The exhibition,
on view April 11 – 27, 2008
at The Pirate: Contemporary Art, is the compilation of over 10 years of
luminance experimentation. LightScapes uses fluorescent and Light Emitting
Diodes with the inclusion of colored gel to create vivid demonstrations of the
principles of geometrics, light, color and the expression each scape presents.
THE EXPERIENCE
“My work with the Arvada
Center includes lighting art
installations in a manner that showcases the art in a dynamic way, which gives
a whole new dimension and life to each exhibit. So I decided it was time to give light a primary roll in my exhibition,
instead of a secondary, supportive roll. The show uses a minimal approach in
bringing together shape, light, space, color, depth and dimension. I want my work to have one reconsider the
roll light plays in art and the pure energy that it evokes." The exhibition includes thirteen horizontal
wall LightScapes and five three-dimensional vertical series. Lit from within
and being two and three dimensional work ranging in size from 97 by 24” to 12”
by 18” the work expresses the fascination about one of the purest artistic and
scientific mediums.
