In Tough Times, Holiday Gift Program Means So Much
Last December, when the temperatures fell as fast as the snow, an Arvada woman and her son made their home inside her car. This is an example of one of the many families being assisted through the City of Arvada’s Lighting Up the Holidays program.
When the woman was asked if she would spend an extra gift card on herself to buy essential items or for her son, the message was clear she would give everything possible to her child, even though the mom worked outdoors and had no winter coat. A generous Arvada resident shopping at the Army Navy Surplus store heard of the woman’s situation and purchased a coat for this single mom facing a very difficult time in her life.
More than 250 Arvada children received toys, clothes, bikes, and other gifts through this program last year, and it is expected that our 2008 program will have a record number of children in need. Help make the holiday season a little brighter for an Arvada child by becoming involved in the Lighting Up the Holidays program. Before you hit the stores to shop, please take a moment to call 720-898-7586 and find out how you can make a difference in the life of a child.
Gifts will be delivered by Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves, police officers, and other City of Arvada employees just before Christmas.
