Fillup a Can and Keep Arvada Beautiful Day a Great Success!!
More than 500 volunteers came out on a bright, sunny Saturday, May 3, to clean up litter along Arvada’s parks and streets. Boy scouts, girl scouts, Optimists, Kiwanians, neighborhood groups, and families cleaned over 50 miles of assigned routes.
Common trash items included plenty of water, soda, and sports drink bottles, as well as paper, cardboard, and plastic bags. Less common items included shopping carts, tires, and bicycles. The City is fortunate to have Waste Connections volunteer each year to pick up the full trash bags left along the routes by our volunteers.
After the cleanup, participants were treated to a picnic at Pioneer Pavilion. The Clear Creek Optimists grilled the hamburgers and hot dogs, while the Arvada Police Academy Alumni served the grilled treats with chips and cookies. Cookies were donated by:
McDonalds Restaurants at both 9825 58th and 8001 Wadsworth Blvd.
DasMeyer Fine Pastery Chalet at 13251 W 64th Ave.
Great Harvest Bread, 7745 Wadsworth Blvd.
Rheinlander Bakery, 5721 Wadsworth Blvd.
LaPatisserie Francaise, 7885 Wadsworth Blvd
The picnic also featured prizes. Arvada City Councilmember Mark McGoff, Deputy City Engineer Patrick Dougherty, and our own Fillup A. Can selected the winning tickets, which included donated prizes from US on Wheels, AMF Arvada Bowling, the Apex Center, and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities.
Arvada is a better place because of the civic-minded actions of our Fillup A. Can/Keep Arvada Beautiful Day volunteers.
Please help to Keep Arvada Beautiful, and "Fillup A Can!"
