League of Women Voters of Jefferson County

The League of Women Voters of Jefferson County was organized on May 27, 1953 with a membership of about sixty women in three units. We currently have 175 member of both men and women who meet at 6 different locations in the county. The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens of government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Nonpartisan means we neither support nor oppose candidates at any level of government, but are always working on issues that concern our members and the public. Yearly events include: Breakfast with Jefferson County Legislators, Day at the State Legislature, publication of the Citizen's Guide for the public, candidate forums, ballot issues speeches, and meeting with the County Commissioners & School Board in alternating years. We also have strong committees that research health/welfare, education, land use/open space, elections, government, and natural resources.
