GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT ALS
The ALS Association is the only national not-for-profit voluntary health organization whose sole mission is to find the cause and the cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a fatal neuromuscular disease. It is characterized by degeneration of a select group of nerve cells and pathways in the brain and spinal cord, which leads to progressive paralysis of the muscles. ALS was first diagnosed in 1869 by the French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. The disease became known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease” after the baseball great contracted and died from ALS in 1941.

The Rocky Mountain Chapter
Provides the following services free of charge to ALS Patients, Family Members, Caregivers, and Healthcare Professionals.

ALS Patient Service Staff
Support staff dedicated solely to assist ALS patients, family members, caregivers, and healthcare professionals with providing resources, support and home visits to aid in the management of the disease.

ALS Support Groups
In Denver, Boulder and Colorado Springs for patients, family members, caregivers, and friends. These groups meet monthly and feature speakers on ALS-related topics as well as offering open discussion time lead by a facilitator.
